About Hydride Functional Silicone Fluids
Methyl hydrogen silicone fluids may be used as a reactive intermediate in the synthesis of a very wide variety of silicone copolymers or as a crosslinking agent in neutral cure silicone rubber. Both reactions involve the hydrosilation of allyl terminated hydrocarbons using transition metal catalysts. The reaction proceeds as follows:
Methyl hydrogen silicone fluids are also suggested as water repellent treatments for textile materials and may be applied from solvent systems or emulsified prior to application.
Pendant Dimethyl/Methyl Hydrogen Copolymers
Dimethyl/Methyl Hydrogen Copolymers are typically used in hydrosilation reactions as well as for water repellent applications. These materials have the following general structure where the dimethyl and methyl hydrogen siloxane units are randomly distributed throughout the polymer chain:
